Family time is the most important thing that you can give to your children. Now is the time to make sure that your children will be able to bond and have good memories with you.

According to Psalm 127:3-5, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”

How do you take care of the heritage that you got from the Lord? Let us look at five special ways that you can use the weekends for family time.

Make Some Bible Time

The first activity that you should have with your children is an activity where you can share the word of the Creator. Bible time and sharing Bible verses is very important for you and your children.

Families can forget that the weekends are a time for rest and rejuvenation of your belief and faith in the Creator. Take advantage of the weekend and make it a special time for a unique way of spending time with your children in exploring the Bible.

How do you do this?

Here are some activities that include the Bible for you to do with your children so they can see it is a special family time.

Bible Verse Sharing

You can do some Bible verse sharing with your children. If your children are at an age where they can memorize phrases and connect their experiences to a Bible verse, then sharing in this way is a good activity as a family.

You can also start by choosing a single Bible verse that applies to everyday life and let them discuss it with examples of personal experiences that apply.

Bible Reading

Bible ReadingBible reading is another activity that you can do, and it does not require a lot of time. You can set aside at least an hour or two on a weekend to see to it that you will spend time reading the Bible with your family.

You can start by having a short Bible time and eventually increase it when your kids are ready and enjoy the activity together.

Bible Switching

If your children have their own sets of bibles you can also do Bible switching. This is an activity where your children can highlight their favorite verse and switch with their siblings to discuss why that is their favorite, how it has affected them, or how it makes them strong. This is perfect when you have teenagers who are growing in their independence.

Do Offline Activities

The weekend is a good time for you to do offline activities. Activities such as your children’s soccer games or swimming lessons on the weekend are good activities that you can do together as a family.

Keep in mind that offline activities must be evaluated so your children are enjoying the things that you have planned for them over the weekend.

Spend A Morning Doing Nothing On Purpose

Spend one morning doing nothing, but do it on purpose. Bonding can be achieved by a family just simply being together. There is comfort in silence, and there is peace and assurance in just being with the people that you are comfortable with.

This unique experience with your children in having nothing scheduled puts less pressure on everyone and makes them feel that life is not about always rushing about.  It is also about making sure that you take some time to be still and calm.

Give Your Children Some Chores At Home

Kids choresAnother activity that you can do as a family would be to do some chores. It is special when you do it together and not just simply try to clean the house or the individual rooms of your children. When your children have their responsibilities (no matter how small), they feel that they are important members of the family, and you will bond better with them.

Go Outside and Have A Picnic

If possible you can always go outside and bond with your kids by having a picnic or a barbecue in your backyard. You do not need to spend a lot of money going out to eat.  You only need to make sure that you are purposely spending time to be with your children and not for any other thing or any other errand.

Spend the day with your children and talk to them about what they want to become and how you can help them.  Discuss their week and what they experienced.  Guide your children and help them feel that they are on the right track.

Use Every Day
